RESTORED BIKE….. LOTS OF NEW PARTS

26K MILES

MOT UNTIL JULY 2019

Just come in to us as part exchange is this lovely condition 1982 Honda Goldwing, GL1100, Plain Jane. The bike is in exceptional condition for a 36 year old machine and has clearly had a lot of time and money spent on it bringing it back to this condition.

Aesthetics:

Paint – The bike bodywork has had a complete respray in what looks to be the original (or very close to it) colour. The pinstripes are done in pin stripe tape rather than painted, and are not the original design. All original badges have been put back on after repaint. There are some small areas of damage to the paintwork; one large chip on the tank cover which has been touched up but not too well, and the front mudguard has some cracking on it. The wheels have been refurbished along with the front fork legs too. Paint on the engine also looks to have been re-done at some point too as it looks nice and fresh and not flaking as you tend to find with these from fuel leaks from the carbs over the years stripping the paint. Paint on the brake calipers could do with being redone. They are not bad but if you want it perfect there are a few chips in the paint on them.

Chrome – Most of the chrome parts have been replaced as part of the restoration so are in as new condition, but most importantly they appear to all be OEM replacement parts, no silly aftermarket cheap tatty chrome stuff. The new parts we can see include; mirrors, all indicators, both horns, radiator side guards, headlight, headlight mounts, and handlebars probably. The chrome luggage rack looks to be original but is in very good condition.

Other – The front and rear brake master cylinders and the brakes lines have also been replaced for new so look great and not all scabby and eaten away at by brake fluid spills over the years. Brake lines are black braided lines so good quality as well as good looking. Seat is in excellent condition with no rips, tears, or cracking, and looks to be totally original and has the matching diamond stitched panel for the backrest on the topbox.

Mechanical:

The bike fires up straight away and the motor runs nice and smooth. Starter clutch is perfect and has no slip whatsoever which is a common and expensive problem on these as its an engine-out job to replace, so no worries there. The engine runs smooth and clean with no smoke or anything, and the carbs seem to have been set up really well as it revs through the range clean and crisp which is good as the carbs on these can be a real pain to setup.

The brakes have been totally overhauled; new front and rear fluid reservoirs, new black braided lines, new pads, and calipers stripped and cleaned.

Tyres are almost new and are good quality Avon Cobra’s, so over £200 worth of new rubber on the bike.

History:

The bike was imported and registered in the UK in 1996 so has been in the UK for 22 years now. Amazingly there are 18 MOT certificates including the latest one, and you can see from the detailed list of MOT’s below, it looks like its been off the road for some of the time so its probably got every single MOT with it since import. It also shows the each year the bike has been kept maintained and has been cherished and loved in order to get it MOT’d each year even if its only done 2 miles that year. This of course is so much better for the bike than just leaving it stood unused and doing no miles as things perish.

Yes there are cheaper GL1100’s out there, but not with this mileage, in this condition, and with such good quality history with them. Buy cheap, buy twice. You wont find a nicer one for the money. Just jump straight on this and get riding and enjoying it.

We have restored, modified, sold, and maintained many classic Goldwings over the years, and I personally have owned a couple as my personal bike, and I love them. A great classic tourer that is more than capable of providing an enjoyable ride, and you can tour in comfort and still have a rare to see classic bike. But we dont see many in this kind of condition and with such low mileage nowadays.

Come and have a look and see it for yourself. I’m sure you will be impressed. The kettle is always on at our showroom.
